The San Diego Tet Festival is taking place in Balboa Park from January 20th to January 22, 2012. It is a Lunar New Year Celebration of the most important holiday in Vietnamese culture, Tet. The festival will feature entertainment from San Diego Tet’s Got Talent and Kid’s Spotlight. There will also be a competition for Mr. and Ms. Vietnam of San Diego.
The preliminary vote for Ms. Vietnam will be for Miss Photogenic 2012. You can cast your vote between these lovely ladies here. All contestants for both Mr. and Ms. Vietnam must be at least 1/8 Vietnamese, between 18-25, and have an understanding of Vietnamese language. Each contestant will compete to receive cash prizes, gifts, a complimentary dress shirt, souvenir pin, etc.
Lunar New Year 2012 will feature the 2nd annual San Diego’s Got Talent Show, showcasing the finest talents in singing, dancing and kung fu. The festival attracts 20,000 people each year with family fun in carnival rides and games, authentic Vietnamese food and firecrackers. At the Cultural Village, you are invited to immerse yourself in Vietnamese culture.
The theme of the festival is “Children of Dragons, Descendants of Gods” to welcome the Year of the Dragon. The Dragon Lord of Lac is considered to be the Father of the Vietnamese People, so this theme is deeply rooted in Vietnamese myth. Tet traditions include cooking special holiday foods for the family and cleaning the house. The holiday marks the coming of spring with the New Year.
Tickets are still available on the event website for $4. Adult Day of tickets will be $5. Don’t miss this great chance to celebrate Vietnamese culture in the heart of San Diego!
