If you enjoy fishing, San Diego is holding a spring festival to celebrate sportsfishing. The Port of San Diego’s Day at the Docks is the West Coast’s largest public festival to celebrate sportsfishing. Day of the Docks takes place this year on Sunday, April 15th. The event provides family-friendly marine attractions, specializing in fishing.
At the festival, fisherman can shop for the latest fishing tackles at presentations from the industry’s leading manufacturers. There will also be how-to seminars to improve fishing techniques and historical displays. Casting contests will be held throughout the day so anglers can display their skills. Captains can showcase their vessels by the San Diego Bay and discuss future seasonal trips. Throughout the day, there will also be catch, preparation and cooking demos in handling and enjoying fresh fish in dishes from seared ahi to fish tacos.
Boat rides will be available on San Diego Bay for families. Guests can also enjoy marine artists, tackle experts, great food, entertainment, fishing seminars, contests, prizes and much more. Kids can enjoy their own Fishing Adventure on the docks. They can sign up early at the San Diego Rod & Reel Club for a reserved time to fish. Children ages 4-12 are provided rods, reels and support from adult fishers until 4pm. Further, in May, kids 15 or younger can fish for free on any day when accompanied by a paid adult. The promotion is an effort to introduce kids to fishing at an early age. For more details, click here.
Free parking is available on Shelter Island. A free shuttle service will be running from 8:30am to 5:30pm to and from the festival. If you’re staying in a San Diego hotel in Gaslamp District, be sure to check out this fishing festival nearby!
