Celebrate Independence Day at the Fair with REO Speedwagon

There are numerous options of what to do and where to go in downtown San Diego this Independence Day, but one of the best 4th of July events takes place at the San Diego County Fairgrounds. This all-day event begins with a patriotic Opening Ceremony at 9:30am and includes live entertainment all morning, afternoon, and into the night. There will be fun family activities, rides, exhibits, shopping halls, food, and live music.
A special event honoring the heroes of San Diego will take place and will feature up to 125 heroes. Anyone from an active-duty soldier to a firefighter to an elementary school teacher is welcome to be nominated. Hometown Heroes is looking for those San Diegans that go above and beyond their calls, so nominate your heroes today! Nominees will receive admission for 4 to the Fair, including reserved seating for a great night concert, as well as a commemorative certificate, T-shirt, and the chance to participate in the Hometown Heroes Parade with their families.
The Grandstand Stage will host a number of acts starting at 7:30pm on July 4th. The stage will begin with a performance by esteemed group Navy Band Southwest. An exquisite fireworks show will follow around 9pm and can be seen from anywhere in the area! After the fireworks, at around 9:30pm, classic rock group REO Speedwagon will take the stage and perform all night long! The show is free with your Fair admission but reserved seats will be available for purchase separately here.
The best option for getting to the Fairgrounds is taking the COASTER train. The train runs on Independence Day and will run late into the night for those staying late. There are three free off-site lots with free shuttles to the Fairgrounds. There is also parking available. For details about shuttles and/or parking, visit this website.
