The Gaslamp Quarter invites you to attend the 10th San Diego Film Festival at the Gaslamp Theater. The Film Festival is September 28th through October 2nd. It has won more than twelve awards including Best Beach, Regional and Best Festival. It is also one of the country’s top 10 Film Festival Vacations so if you attend, you’ll probably see some Hollywood stars! This year’s film festival is featuring five days of movie premieres and five nights of rocking parties!
This year’s opening film is 50/50, showing at 7pm on Wednesday, September 28. 50/50 is an original comedy from the team that brought you Superbad starring Joseph Gordon Levitt and Seth Rogen as best friends whose lives are shaken up by a cancer diagnosis. The film was directed by Jonathan Levine and written by Will Reiser, who is scheduled to attend along with star Anna Kendrick (Up in the Air, Twilight). 50/50 is based on Will Reiser’s own personal battle with cancer in his 20s. Other highlights of the festival include Unicorn City, the story of Live Action Role Playing gamers that move to the mountains to live out their fantasy lives. It is a romantic comedy loosely based on Don Quixote, but set in modern times. Unicorn City will be shown September 29 at 8pm and October 1 at 12:30pm. Along with feature films, the San Diego Film Festival will also feature short documentaries such as Sun City Picture House, the story of a Haitian priest and two aid workers’ quest to build Haiti’s only movie theater on a hill above the tent city after the devastating earthquake of 2010.
