Get Your Feet Moving at the Oktoberfest Dance Festival!

If you’re staying in hotels close to San Diego Convention Center, be sure to check out the 55th Annual Oktoberfest Dance Festival! Celebrate the German festival in an active and fun manner. The event is sponsored by the International Folk Dancers of Balboa Park. This family friendly event features free dance lessons, craft vendors, vintage retailers, food, raffles, prizes, kid’s activities and folk dancing. On Saturday, September 22, the beginner’s dance workshop will be held with dance instructors. Every hour, different teachers will demonstrate folk dancing. From 1-2pm, Kin Ho of the San Diego Folk Dancers and San Diego International Folk Dance club will be giving lessons. From 2-3pm, Joe Sigona of Kayso Folk Dancers will instruct. Finally, from 3-4pm, Lu Sham, a teacher from Cabrillo Folk Dancers will give lessons.
On Sunday, September 23, the official dance festival begins. Dancers from San Diego and Los Angeles will perform all day in costumes from all over the world. No partners are necessary and all are welcome. Some lessons will also be provided from 1:15-2:15pm and 2:30-3:30pm. There will also be performances from Ballet Folklorico “El Tapatio” and Balboa Park Performing Folk Dancers.
You can earn raffle tickets by purchasing products from vendors at the fair. Raffles will be held throughout the afternoon in between dancing. You must be present to win a prize. Parking is available in adjacent lots behind the Hall of Champions and the Starlight Bowl. Don’t miss out on this celebration of dance from all over the world!
