Bring your sweet heart or even just your sweet tooth along to the Downtown Business Association’s 4th Annual “For the Love of Chocolate and SweetArt Festival!” For couples staying in San Diego Gaslamp hotels, this is a fun getaway the Saturday before Valentine’s Day. You can explore the best of Downtown Escondido shops and spas while sampling locally produced beer and wines, paired with amazing chocolate.
As part of the Fest, you can spend the day shopping at Sweet Street, enjoying live music, or taking a romantic horse-drawn carriage ride down historic Grand Ave. There will also be dancing in the Champagne Garden in Maple Street Plaza. Beer/Wine and chocolate pairings will be available to those ages 21 and up, although admission to Sweet Street vendors is free for all ages. Sweet Street features goodies such as Italian ice and cupcakes. Live entertainment will be provided all afternoon and evening by Slow Burn for all ages.
Tastings will be available at Design Moe Kitchen & Bath, ArtHatch, Blush & Silk Waxing and many more downtown Escondido locations. In the past, the event has attracted about 1000 chocolate lovers. The event’s goal is to increase the visibility of stores with five blocks of chocolate.
“Chocolate is a magical thing. It’s very sensual. It triggers pleasure hormones in the body and it excites you and alerts your senses,” said Michael Antonorsi, master chef and co-owner of Encinitas-based Chuao Chocolatier, who explained that chocolate is considered one of the oldest aphrodisiacs. “Eating or giving chocolate at Valentine’s Day is just a way to share love and pleasure.”
Admission is $25 until February 1, when the price rises to $35. Admission includes 10 Beer/Wine & Chocolate Pairings (age 21 & up) and multiple restaurant samples from California Avocado Grill, Vinz, Esco Gelato, La Farfalla and more. There are a limited number of tickets available, so buy your on-line today!
